For long I dreamed about taking photos of my own children one day.
And finally I’m doing it.
I grew up with albums full of photos and many home movies. Somewhere between all our home movies is a silent movie of when my dad was little. It must’ve been filmed sometime in the late fifties or early sixties… It’s magical to see photos of when my parents were young, and it’s so amazing to have albums full of photos of when I was little.
Now looking through these old photos I can see so clearly the resemblance between us and our baba David. I see where he gets his ears, his mouth, his eyes…
I think my love for photography was born way back when I was young.
I can’t imagine not having photos, because to me it’s the physical manifestation of memories. No matter what life hands you, you’ll always have your memories, and photos are a way of taking you back, reminding you of a moment in time when life was just perfect in its imperfection.
So, long overdue, here is a glimpse into our first month of parenthood. It was beautiful, it was hard, it was crazy and scary and overwhelming. It was perfect. And looking back on it with photos make me realise that I’m stronger than I ever thought, braver than I thought, and that our life is beautiful, just the way it is.
We had a birth photographer at our home birth, and this is one of the first photos of David, minutes after he was born.
Our incredible midwife, Natasha Stadler, doing a back-to-the-womb bath with David when he was 5 days old. His first bath of his life.
Breastfeeding was one of the hardest things I had to do… I wanted to give up more times than not, but being able to feed our baby with nature’s perfect food and something that my body creates, is nothing short of magical and a miracle. Now, 5 months in, I can say with joy that I enjoy every moment of this special time with him.
His yawns was, and still is, one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! When a baby enters your life, simple things like yawns turn into beautiful things…
We spent our first days sleeping, reading, sleeping more, staring at his face in total wonderment of this beautiful little person.
His first bath with pappa David, and it’s still something he loves! He is a Pisces afterall…
Week 2 my parents and sister came to visit and saw him for the first time. We didn’t want any visitors for a while after his birth.
