Twelve years ago I was a first year at Stellenbosch university and walked into my room meeting my roommate for the first time. It was Lien, Vera-Marie’s mom.
Over the years we shared many moments, memories, heart aches and laughs and stayed friends. She was the first one who found out about my boyfriend (and now husband) and I was there when she met her husband.
There’s just something about friends from university, you’ll always share something special, a time in your life when you weren’t a child anymore but certainly not an adult yet… So maybe that’s why my friends from university are still very dear to my heart and why it’s SO special to keep in contact and share life’s moments years later.
That’s why this shoot was one of my most special ones. To be able to capture Vera-Marie and see how this little girl has so much of her mom and dad in her.
Vera-Marie was born in Paris, France, where Lien and Alwyn live and work. They were in South Africa for her Christening and I got to see them three times during their short visit here.
Remember to read the beautiful story about the Christening dress right at the end.
Lien’s great-grandmother was from Belgium and during the first world war she got shelter from an English family and looked after their children.
This family gave this dress to her and Lien’s grandfather was the first baby that were Christened in it in 1932. It was passed down through generations, Lien was also Christened in this dress and now Vera-Marie.
This dress is already part of this family for more than 100 years.
