For week 23 I’ve got a very special photo.
This week I did an awesome ‘Day in the Life’ photo session of two dear friends. They are expecting their first child, a girl, and I captured one day in their lives to show their daughter, Sophia, one day.
I asked soon-to-be-mom Lize to write about how they came to choose Sophia’s name.
Here is the story of Sophia Karin.
You might ask: “What’s in a name?” Well, let me share with you what I believe. Every single time you speak someone’s name, you also speak the meaning of their name into their life. The Word says the power of life and death is in the tongue (Prov. 18:21) and so of course we were going to make sure that we choose our little lady’s name wisely…
One of my best friend’s name is Sophia and I have always loved her name… almost as much as I love her! I realised what her name meant when I read The Shack five years ago. In the book Sophia is the personification of God’s wisdom and that is also the meaning of Sophia – wisdom, pure, beautiful (which is so true of my friend’s character). I decided then that my daughter would be named Sophia one day.
So at only 6 weeks pregnant I was convinced I was carrying a girl and I also knew without a doubt that she is a ‘Sophia’. Luckily my husband, Pieter, also loved the name and agreed.
Pieter’s grandmother has since shared with us that both her grandmothers were named Sophia as well!
Sophia’s second name was an obvious choice for us. Both our mothers’ name is Karin… and it means pure, clean, lovely, illustrious lady.
Promise for Sophia: The name signifies wisdom that comes from God and a pure and beautiful heart. Teach us to number our days right, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Ps. 90:12).
Promise for Karin: Pure of heart, cleansed and sanctified by the blood of Jesus. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (Matt. 5:8).
For this photo I stood on the arm rest of their couch, Pieter holding my arms so that I don’t fall and Lisa, who did the make-up, taking photos with my ipad of me…
